This Chevrolet El Camino is a variant for model year 1971 GMC Sprint, Caballero and named in 1978. In Mexico, also sold as Chevrolet Conquistador.

This year has been completely redesigned, longer, wider and lower full-size Chevrolet. It is sold in smaller numbers than more conservative style of Ford, did so in comparison with Chevrolet El Camino Ranch, with 22,246 built the first year. Similar, but less flamboyant 1960 model sold even fewer units to 14,163, at that time discontinued Chevrolet.
